Privacy Policy
How TruLink collects, uses, shares and protects personal information
This Privacy Policy explains how TruLink handles personal information when you visit, register for, verify, communicate through or otherwise use the TruLink platform.
1. Our Privacy Commitment
TruLink aims to follow fair information practices, including accountability, transparency, appropriate purpose, data minimisation, accuracy, security, access and controlled retention. This Policy is designed to reflect the general privacy principles in Trinidad and Tobago's Data Protection Act, 2011, including provisions proclaimed from time to time, and other applicable law.
2. Information We May Collect
Information you provide
- Account details, including name, contact details, password credentials and preferred location/service areas.
- Profile information, service categories, work history, availability, photos, videos, descriptions, skills, rates and portfolio content.
- Identity and verification information, which may include identification documents, business registration details, licences, certifications, references or other documents requested for verification.
- Customer requests, job/gig postings, quotations, messages, reviews, complaints, reports and evidence submitted in a dispute.
- Marketing preferences, survey responses, waitlist details and information you submit to customer support.
- Payment-related information for fees payable to TruLink, where applicable. TruLink may use a third-party payment processor and may not receive full card or bank details.
Information collected automatically
- Device, browser, operating system, IP address, identifiers, log data, pages/screens viewed, clicks and feature interactions.
- Approximate location inferred from IP or service area information; precise device location only where the feature requires it and you grant permission.
- Cookie, analytics and similar technology data used for security, functionality, measurement and permitted marketing.
Information from other sources
- Verification or fraud-prevention service providers, public records where lawful, references and business information sources.
- Other users who submit reviews, complaints, referrals or information about an interaction with you.
- Social platforms or sign-in providers if you choose to connect them and they are offered by TruLink.
3. Why We Use Personal Information
- Create and administer accounts and profiles.
- Match users with service providers, work opportunities or relevant requests.
- Enable communications and provide customer support.
- Verify selected identity, business, credential or profile information.
- Protect users, detect fraud, investigate reports and enforce platform rules.
- Operate ratings, reviews, complaint handling and trust-and-safety processes.
- Improve platform functionality, analytics, user experience and service categories.
- Send service messages and, with appropriate choice/consent where required, marketing communications.
- Process TruLink fees, subscriptions or promotional products where offered.
- Comply with legal obligations, lawful requests, recordkeeping requirements and the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
4. Legal and Permission Basis
Depending on the context and applicable law, TruLink processes information because it is necessary to provide the requested platform service, because you have consented, because TruLink has a legitimate and proportionate business or safety purpose, or because processing is necessary to comply with law or protect legal rights. Where consent is the appropriate basis, you may withdraw it for future processing, subject to legal and operational limits.
5. Public Profiles and Marketplace Visibility
Provider and business profiles are designed to be discoverable. Depending on your settings and the feature, profile name, service category, service area, ratings, review content, profile media, verification indicators and other marketplace information may be visible to other users or the public. Do not place sensitive personal information in public profile fields.
6. How We Share Information
- With other users as necessary to facilitate a request, match, quotation, booking, gig or service relationship.
- With service providers that host, secure, analyse, communicate, verify, support or otherwise help operate TruLink, subject to appropriate contractual controls.
- With professional advisers, insurers, auditors or investors where reasonably necessary and subject to confidentiality.
- With government, regulators, courts, law enforcement or other authorities where required by law or reasonably necessary to respond to lawful process or protect rights and safety.
- In connection with a merger, financing, restructuring, sale or transfer of all or part of the business, subject to appropriate safeguards.
- With your direction or consent.
TruLink does not sell personal information to advertisers in exchange for money. If TruLink later introduces advertising technologies that constitute a regulated “sale” or similar disclosure under applicable law, this Policy and user choices will be updated before use.
7. Verification Data
Verification documents may contain sensitive information. TruLink will limit access to personnel and service providers who require it for verification, trust and safety, legal compliance or dispute handling. Where practical, TruLink may retain verification status and essential audit evidence rather than retaining a full document indefinitely.
8. Data Retention
TruLink keeps personal information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this Policy, including account operation, dispute handling, fraud prevention, legal compliance and recordkeeping. Retention periods vary by data type. When information is no longer needed, TruLink will delete, anonymise or securely isolate it where reasonably practicable.
9. International Processing
TruLink may use cloud, communications, analytics, verification or support providers whose systems or personnel are located outside Trinidad and Tobago. Where personal information is transferred or accessed internationally, TruLink will seek to use reasonable contractual, technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the information and applicable law.
10. Security
TruLink uses reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards intended to protect personal information, which may include access controls, authentication, encryption in transit where supported, logging, backups, restricted staff access and security monitoring. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so users should also protect their credentials and devices.
11. Your Choices and Privacy Requests
- Review and update account/profile information through available account tools.
- Request access to personal information TruLink holds about you, subject to applicable exceptions.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion or restriction where appropriate, recognising that TruLink may need to retain certain information for legal, safety, fraud-prevention or dispute purposes.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Opt out of marketing messages while continuing to receive necessary service or security communications.
Send privacy requests to privacy@trulinkcaribbean.com. TruLink may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
12. Cookies and Analytics
TruLink may use essential cookies and similar technologies to keep the platform secure and functional, and may use analytics or marketing technologies where permitted. Cookie controls may be provided through a consent banner or browser/device settings. Blocking essential technologies may affect platform functionality.
13. Children
TruLink is intended for users aged 18 and over. TruLink does not knowingly create marketplace accounts for children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to TruLink in breach of this requirement, contact TruLink so the matter can be reviewed.
14. Data Breaches and Incidents
TruLink will investigate suspected personal-data incidents, take reasonable containment and remediation measures, document the incident as appropriate, and provide notices to affected persons or authorities where required by applicable law or reasonably necessary to reduce material risk.
15. Changes to This Policy
TruLink may update this Policy as the platform, technology or legal requirements change. Material changes will be communicated by reasonable means and the revised effective date will be displayed.
16. Trinidad and Tobago Legal Context
The Data Protection Act, 2011 (Act No. 13 of 2011) was enacted to provide for protection of personal privacy and information and has been brought into force in stages. TruLink intends this Policy to operate as a minimum internal privacy standard even where a particular statutory provision has not yet been proclaimed, while remaining subject to the law actually in force at the relevant time.
